Kuan-Yin’s Food Cupboard

What Is Kuan-Yin’s Food Cupboard?   Kuan-Yin’s was organized in 2002 by Psychic’s Thyme, Othala Grove Spiritual Center and Northeast Council of W.I.C.C.A. We felt the Greater Rochester area pagan community needed to have a pagan food pantry for those in need. The food pantry is named after the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion, Kuan-Yin.

Where Is It Located?

Kuan-Yin’s Food Cupboard, housed at Psychic’s Thyme, 16 Edmonds St. Rochester, New York, 14607.

Who Is It For?
Pagans in and around the Greater Rochester area who are in need may come at any time to pick up the foods.  There is no application we only ask that you call Psychic’s Thyme ahead of your visit so they are aware that you will be stopping by. Please bring bags or boxes with you to transport the food.  If you know of anyone in the pagan community who is in need, but they are unable to come by and get food – please contact Lisa at the above e-mail so that arrangements can be made for delivery, or you may pick up the food for them.

Who Maintains the Cupboard? Psychic’s Thyme and Northeast Council of W.I.C.C.A. maintains the food pantry via volunteers each month who go through the food items, they sort out items due to expire soon, deliver soon-to-expire foods to FoodLINK, Rochester, and re-stock the shelves.  Lisa Hutchings, Community Affairs Director coordinates this project. If you are interested in helping, please contact Lisa at lmhutchings@rochester.rr.com

We need volunteers, so contact Lisa if you are able to help out.

Who Donates the Food? Friends and patrons of Psychic’s Thyme, people who participate in Northeast Council of W.I.C.C.A. open Sabbat celebrations.

Is There A Limit on What Is Given Out?  No, as long as you don’t “clean out” the pantry.  We have an ample supply on hand.

What Kinds of Foods Do You Have?  We have a lot of canned and boxed foods, vegetables, soups, cereals, etc.

What Do You Need?  Not only non-perishable foods, but also toiletries, pet supplies (many pagans own animals and they need food/bedding also), laundry supplies, personal hygiene items, toweling paper, kleenex, etc.

When Can We Drop Items Off?  Items may be dropped off at Psychic’s Thyme, 16 Edmonds St., Rochester, NY when the store is open. Phone (585) 473-4230.  Store Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11AM – 6PM; Thursday 11AM – 7PM, Saturday 11AM-6PM.
