Bucks for Bobo is a Community Fundraising Project on behalf of Debbie Gaiteri, who is in need of a platform deck and elevator lift to provide her the access she needs to safely and independently be able to get in an out of her apartment. This particular solution is the best fit for the layout of the property and is comparably priced to a platform and ramp, due to the length of ramp that would be required as dictated by code and the height of the stairs

  A Bit About Bobo
Debbie, also known by many in the community as "Bobo" or "Little Debbie" is a long-time Charlotte resident with an apartment that sports a spectacular view of Lake Ontario from her front porch and access to all of the happenings at Ontario Beach Park - which many of us have enjoyed with her over the years.

It has become difficult of late for Debbie to maneuver stairs independently, especially in the heat, in order to access both the motorized wheelchair she uses to cruise the park and to the Firebird Formula she sports in summer months.

Come winter, even more difficulties arise in getting her to doctor appointments and out to socialize as the cold prevents her from managing stairs at all. It becomes necessary to secure a strapping lad to attend her on the stairs using her manual wheelchair (not that she minds) - and even then it can be borderline dangerous at times.

· Her Problem
Insurance will not cover an outdoor ramp or elevator lift, and grants and other funding are not available to her because she does not own the own property she lives in. Medical transport services will not even pick her up if need be due to liability concerns.

Her only alternative is to move, which would just break her heart.

· Our Solution
Our goal is to rally as a community and raise $5,000 by the end of June to cover most of the cost of the construction of the platform deck and the purchase and installation of the wheelchair lift, both of which can be taken with her if her health dictates that she needs to move into an assisted environment with family members.

Our hope is that we can come together as a community and make this lofty goal a reality. We understand that these economic times are difficult - they are on all of us. If we can give a little as individuals, perhaps take up a collection at our workplace and donate as a group, or just help spread the word - we can at help make a difference.

Even if our goal is not met, it would surely lighten the load of the added financial burden Debbie faces to be able to keep independent in the place she's called home for over twenty years.
